Library Board Minutes - April 5, 2004

Meeting was called to order by President Larry Loomis at 5:05.
- President Loomis indicated that the meeting was properly noticed.
- Approval of Agenda:
A motion to approve the agenda was made by Carol Clausius, seconded by Norm Sandmire. Motion carried.
- Approval of Minutes of March 1, 2004:
A motion to approve the minutes of the meeting was made by Norm Sandmire, seconded by Lewis VanVliet.
Motion carried.
- Director’s Report:
- Shared notes of appreciation from community people
- Reviewed monthly report. Noted the significant increase in circulation.
- Two new scanners and two PC’s have been purchased.
- Urinals have been repaired.
- Attic project is nearly completed.
- Need to have a DSL line installed (Genuine Telcom).
- Have a new U.S. flag. Request to loan the library a POW flag was turned down. Flag pole is not equipped to handle two flags.
- Will be talking to Chief John Annear about handicap parking at library.
- Reviewed the Equipment Use policy. Seems adequate.
- Thanked Norm Sandmire for his service to the board.
- Indicated that the terms of Larry Loomis and Carey Bradley will end in June, 2004.
- Standing Committee Reports
- Building and Grounds:
- Need to get bids on new doors on east side of library
- Carpet needs replaced in meeting room in lower level.
Will wait until water problem is completely solved.
- Personnel Committee:
- Valerie Mangion will be working extra hours to cover for vacation time of staff.
- County Board Report:

Library Director and Carol Clausius attended a City/County Ad Hoc committee meeting.
- City Report: None
- Long-Range Planning Committee
-
Committee has been working on including the History Room in the Long- Range Plan.
Next meeting is May 13, 2004.
- Friends of the Library
- April 12th: Love of Learning at Campus. “Black Eye”
- April 30-May 1: Book and Bake Sale
- April 16th: Next meeting
- Other programs were announced: Birds of North America: Maggie Jones and Barb Duerkson, April 22.
- Ron Kind-Art Competition Display, April 24.
- Summer Reading Program: Ed Tiegs, Children’s Librarian.
- Monthly Bills: Motion to approve bills as presented was made by Norm Sandmire, seconded by Carol Clausius. Motion carried.
Michele Nolen-Karras expressed thanks and appreciation to Norm Sandmire for his years of service on the board. She indicated that Norm was instrumental in making many improvements in the operation of the library.
- Adjournment: A motion was made to adjourn by Norm Sandmire, seconded by Janet Parr. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at 5:48.
